A rain check without rain
Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 11:51AM Last night I signed on Adium to see if any local or Australian acquaintances were online. I was pleased to see that OOD* not only was online, he was looking for me.
It eventuated that there was an opportunity for lunchtime mischief today, so we began eagerly plotting some carnal scenarios. I actually had some trouble falling asleep after we signed off as my imagination was in pornographic overdrive.
But this morning OOD didn't call on schedule. I checked my email, and he'd had to cancel. He called a little later to apologise.
While I'd certainly been disappointed when our plans fell through, I also realized that when one door closes, another opens. I remembered that I'd issued OOD several sexually-oriented rainchecks over the past months for various services rendered, usually of the hot chat variety. Now I could ask for my own raincheck from him.
When I explained that it was my turn for a raincheck -- and I'd let him set the value -- he sounded intrigued. So, instead of sulking, I can spend the afternoon wondering and looking forward to what he decides on my raincheck's worth.
Before my readers compliment my forgiving and imaginative nature, I should confess that if he simply sent flowers to Chez Melina to apologize for the sudden change in plans, I'd be delighted. But I can't see him making this gesture because of its conventionality, and even if he did, I doubt he has time to visit a florist in person so he can pay cash.
Besides, his rain check will more than cover it. He doesn't owe me an apology; he's already offered one and I accepted it. And I can always buy my own flowers.
